Winter Fishing Trips in Whistler British Columbia Canada
Finally the big fish are starting to show up. All the lakes in Whistler, BC and surrounding areas are frozen and the ice fishing has been great. In the last week we have been catching larger than average Trout as the temperatures have jumped up from -23°c – 0°c. The warmer temperature has quietened the ice formation, which in turn has made the larger fish less spooky. While lakes are rapidly freezing the ice needs to settle back to the water. This is why you hear long running cracks and sudden ice drops that make a big boom. It is sometimes hard to believe that these are good noises but they are necessary for ice to form safely.
Whistler offers great opportunities close to the village for Ice fishing when your legs need a break from the ski slopes. Look no further than Lost Lake which is close to the base of Blackcomb Mountain. Lost lake offers great Ice fishing and endless winter scenery in every direction, you can also view both Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain in the background. Having both Ski hills in the background makes a great photograph. Rainbow Trout in Lost lake can reach a length of 18″ and weigh as much as 2 LBS. The Rainbow Trout from this cold water lake are absolutely delicious.

Ice fishing Tips
Try this trick to drying off the ice surface quicker. In the past few days we have received a fair amount of rain on top of a good snow layer and this has caused a slush layer on most of the lakes. This is nothing to be worried about, unless you are wearing tennis shoes. For this reason we suggest you wear good, warm and waterproof footwear when Ice fishing. As the temperature drops the ice will dry off and business is as usual. If there is any snow on the ice where you are ice fishing, pack it down and this will let the cold air into it quicker. The packed areas will freeze solid, leaving you high and dry the next day you visit.
