Best Salmon fly fishing in Canada Squamish British Columbia
Best Salmon fly fishing in Canada
Right now, Coho Salmon and Chum Salmon are thick in the Rivers surrounding Squamish, BC Canada. The fly fishing has been exceptional, best I’ve seen in years. There are so many Chum Salmon in the Rivers surrounding Squamish that even first time fly fishers are catching multiple Salmon in a day. I always suggest that our clients do a few bicep and tricep stretches prior to fishing. Let’s just say that you’ll be able to skip a couple days at the gym because these massive Salmon will have your arms pumped. These Salmon pull so hard that most people struggle to keep their fly rod tip up. They can literally destroy a fly rod, fly line and fly reel in a matter of a couple days, especially when your fly fishing guides “Pemberton Fish Finder” are dialed in like we are now.
Coho Salmon and Chum Salmon fly fishing gear
This year we picked up our Fly Fishing game. We took on a whole new fleet of 9 wt fly rods and complemented them with Okuma’s new 9 – 10 wt Helios fly reels. All of our fly fishing combos are equipped with Scientific Angler sink tip lines in either a type 4 or 5 sink rate. Our fly fishing shop in Pemberton, BC “Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd.” is well equipped with all your fly fishing needs. All of the flies used on our Salmon fly fishing tours are hand tied specifically with the Squamish Rivers in mind. Over the years we have designed a few patterns that Salmon can not resist in Squamish. For some of these Salmon fly fishing patterns visit our instructional fly tying website Friday Night Flies http://fridaynightflies.com/ . Tune in Friday nights at 5 PM to watch us tie flies live.
There is something to be said about the shear power of both Chum Salmon and Coho Salmon. They can empty a reel spool in seconds, leaving you wondering what just happened and how you are going to get it all back. Remember to set the hook hard, lean back, keep your tip up and keep your fingers clear of the reel while they take line. We bring a soft rubber net along to limit the time of the fight, this way the fish will recover quickly. The last thing you want to do is drag these magnificent creatures up on to the bank, keep them wet as much as possible.
