Rivers you want to be focusing on while Steelheading in Squamish are as follows; Mamquam River, Cheakamus River and the Squamish River. Although I will not tell you where to fish, I will tell you what to look for while Steelhead fly fishing in Squamish, BC. Look for deep pools with structure, fly fish both the head of the pool and the tail outs. Rarely will you catch Steelhead in the main body of a pool, they typically sit either at the head or the tail out.
I have also caught lots of Steelhead in transitional spots. Transitional spots consist of fast moving water in depths of 3′ – 6′ with large boulders or structure. Boulders cause well oxygenated water and provide great ambush structure, which large fish like to lie in.
