Vancouver Salmon Fishing Charters
Experience the best Salmon fishing in Vancouver BC Canada. Saltwater Salmon fishing in Vancouver is a year round activity. All 5 Pacific Salmon species Chinook/King, Coho/Silver, Sockeye, Pink and Chum can be caught at different times of the year. Our main focus is fishing for Chinook/Kings at any time of the year. The other 4 species run in the summer & fall months and have large and small cycle years depending on run size. The largest Chinook of the year appear in the months of August, September & October. Our late winter & springtime fishery is some of our best fishing with very good numbers of Chinook in our local waters.
Trolling for salmon is our preferred method of fishing with 10.5ft rods, single action reels & Scotty downriggers. Anchovies, Herring, hootchies & spoons with or without a flasher are all baits that work at any given time to catch Salmon.

Best Times to Salmon Fish in Vancouver BC
Chinook Salmon / King Salmon
These Pacific Salmon are the largest of the 5 species, and are caught year round in the local waters surrounding Vancouver. Some specific times of the year do produce either good quantities of Chinook or great size. Winter months & springtime can be excellent action for teenager size fish with a few larger ones mixed in.
July thru to October we see the arrival of big mature Chinook that are challenging to hook at times but are tremendous fighters! A Chinook over 30lbs is sometimes referred to as a Tyee, other names include Spring, King or Blackmouths. Almost all our focus is on Chinook salmon thru the year and on each fishing charter.
Coho Salmon also known as Silvers.
Coho are one of the hardest fighting & entertaining Salmon to catch. July thru to October they will enter the Vancouver area waters. Size ranges from 5lbs up to 15lbs in the fall months. When a good school of Coho is located and they are in a biting mood it is with out a doubt one of the memories that will last with any angler. Some good numbers of Coho show up In September&October, and mix them in with large Chinook our Fall fishery can be excellent.
Each year Sockeye runs fluctuate. In the very large return cycle years such as 2010, 2014 and this year coming 2018, we end up with one of the best fisheries Vancouver’s waters have to offer. Many river systems contribute to one very large return. Late July the first batch will roll in and by mid August to the end of September the Sockeye fishing can be excellent with big numbers being caught. If looking for constant action this fishery is the one. These are some of the best tasting fish once on the dinner table!
In the local water’s around Vancouver and Southern B.C.Pink salmon show up in very large schools travelling into a number of the largest rivers on odd numbered years such as 2017. In Northern B.C. waters large runs occur in even years. The reasons for this are not exactly clear. Good numbers of Pinks show up in mid-July and can be caught mixed in with other species like Chinook & Coho. The great aspect of this fishery is sitting still in isolated areas at anchor near beaches and streams and spin casting or jigging for these scrappy 4 to 10lb Salmon. When a large school is located constant activity is the norm and it makes for a great alternative first thing in the morning, before trolling for large Chinook later on. Pink salmon are wonderful canned or smoked.
One of the longest fights I have ever encountered with a salmon was with a customer and a 21lb Chum Salmon. With out a doubt at times a extremely hard fighting fish, it took the customer over a hour to land it. They are known to be very scrappy tough fish!. Showing up in the Fall we generally catch Chum, while fishing for large Chinook. However we are seeing good runs that bite & feed closer to our local waters in the Fall months. When a school is located and the correct trolling gear is put in front of them it can be constant action on these excellent fighting Salmon!
