Fly fishing with egg patterns this time of year is a very effective way of catching Trout as long as it is presented the right way. Simply put, you want to dead drift them. Most people that fly fish with an egg pattern use a floating line, strike indicator and a leader length of 9 feet. Place your strike indicator at approximately 1.5 times the depth of water being fished. To fly fish an egg pattern properly it should be bouncing along the bottom of the stream at the streams current speed. Do not swing or strip egg patterns, they will not catch fish this way.
A good suggestion would be to hire one of our fly fishing guides and have them show you how to properly use an egg pattern while fly fishing. Our fly fishing guides will put you on the fast track to fly fishing success.
