Fun Day Fly Fishing in Pemberton BC with Tatum Monod
Right now the fly fishing in Pemberton, BC is very good. The Coastal Cutthroat have now made it into the Rivers surrounding Pemberton, and we are now starting to catch them regularly. Coastal Cutthroat are one of my favorite Trout to fly fish for, simply because they are a very aggressive feeding fish that seldom let an easy meal go by. Right now the Salmon fry are making there appearance in the Rivers and they are #1 on a Coastal Cutthroat Trout’s diet.
Tatum Monod a Pro Skier and avid Fly Fisher
Today I had the Pleasure of fly fishing with Tatum Monod and for those of you that don’t know who she is, she is an extreme back country downhill skier. Tatum is a famous female downhill skier and to be honest I had no idea because she comes across as just a bubbly cute chick with a love for the outdoors. Some famous people come across as snobs, this was not the case with Tatum. After chatting with her on the River I quickly found out that she indeed was an avid fly fishing woman. It did not take long for me to correct what she was doing wrong in our local waters, as you can see from the picture above.
How to catch Coastal Cutthroat Trout While fly fishing
As I stated above, Coastal Cutthroat Trout absolutely love eating Salmon fry. In my experience, no other fly imitates a Salmon fry better than an Improved Moto Minnow. The more wounded or crippled you make it look the more takes you will receive. Simply cast this fly up stream slightly and let it swing through the hole, once it swings through the hole start stripping the fly back erratically. Mix your stripping return with long and short retrieves, make some short and long, fast and slow. Depending on how fast and deep the River is flowing, you may need to add weight to your leader to get your fly down. I have found that cutthroat trout hang out near the bottom, they like ledges and structure. All of these mentioned are great spots to ambush their prey “Salmon Fry”. The Moto Minnow is available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd in Pemberton at 1380 Birch street.
