Catch and Release Chinook Salmon fishing in Pemberton British Columbia. Yes, It’s finally Salmon fishing season in Whistler and Pemberton BC. It is a short window where we can target Salmon as they are passing through on their journey to spawn. All of the Salmon that we are catching right now are Chrome. The fishing will continue to be good for the next 2 – 3 weeks. After this the Salmon enter the rivers and are home free from fishing pressure. Chinook Salmon in the Whistler and Pemberton area can grow to a staggering 65 LBS. I have heard of Salmon being caught weighing as much as 80 LBS. On average the Salmon that we catch weigh between 20 – 35 LBS. There is Zero retention of Salmon in our area, All of the Salmon that we catch are released unharmed.

Salmon Fishing in Whistler and Pemberton BC

On this day we landed 1 Salmon and lost 4, during 5 hours of fishing. The Salmon come in waves as they are passing through and occasionally you will see a seal chasing fish around. Freshwater Salmon fishing is a treat because you don’t have the rough seas to deal with. These massive Salmon put up a great fight being that they are a short distance from the Ocean. Being this fresh the Salmon are still sporting sea lice. It is important to handle these amazing fish with the up most care and get them back in to the water a quick as possible. Support the fish until they are ready to swim away on their own.

So every waking moment I would be seen fishing the local rivers and lakes on a daily basis. In 1976 My Father "Ivan Knowles" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, "The Family Business", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
