Pink Salmon Fishing trips in Squamish British Columbia Canada
The Pink Salmon fishing has really picked up in Squamish the past week and is continuing to get better. There is roughly 3 weeks of quality Pink Salmon fishing left in Squamish this year and will wrap up by mid September. Pink Salmon feed very aggressively once in the Squamish River, this makes them fairly easy to catch on either a fly rod or spinning rod. With the Pink Salmon fishing being as good as it is right now, the shoreline can be littered with anglers at times. Although there is substantial fishing pressure, the fishing is still very good.
Fly Fishing in Squamish BC
Pink Salmon range in size from 4 – 8 LBS and eat literally anything pink in color. Some days we have been known to use fly fishing flies with chartreuse hints, depending on water clarity. Chartreuse shows up in the water better when the water is high and colored. Once Pink Salmon are hooked they explode from the water and try their best to get rid of the hook. This can be very exciting to say the least. At some points it seems almost impossible to get them in our landing nets, they leave it all on the line. The use of barbless hooks are mandatory in all streams in British Columbia, Canada. By adding the use of barbless hooks, be prepared to lose the odd fish. Barbless hooks make releasing the fish a lot less harmful.
Pink Salmon Fishing for Everyone
Pink Salmon are the perfect sized fish for young anglers. They pull hard, show themselves regularly and are a manageable size. Once in the net they typically chill out for a picture and release nicely. This year, fisheries are allowing anglers to retain 1 Pink Salmon per day with a Valid BC Freshwater fishing license accompanied by a non tidal Salmon tag. Although we prefer clients release fish, we do not oppose those that have acquired a taste for Salmon. We do not have a packing facility, so all fish must be kept on ice or refrigerated and consumed within a couple days. Although Pink Salmon are edible, it feels really good watching the Salmon swim away unharmed 😉
