Fly Fishing Tours in the Whistler British Columbia Area.
Fly Fishing Tours in the Whistler British Columbia Area. This Fishing report will give you an idea as to how the fly fishing is in Whistler as of June 2015. Not only does the Whistler/Pemberton area have an abundance of mountain activities, it also happens to be surrounded by beautiful bodies of water to fly fish. Weather your addiction is walk and wading rivers for wild BC Rainbow Trout or taking a car topper to an out of the way lake, we have it all right here for you! Pemberton Fish Finder can get you there with what you need to get some of these wild fish in the net. So with that said, we thought that we would update all our Fly Fishing enthusiasts with the happenings of our local fly fishing friendly waters.
Birkenhead River Fishing
Over the last month the Birkenhead River has been high, not high enough not to fish if you can find some quiet pools. The Pemberton Fish Finder knows how to get you into the holes safely. In these conditions, the trout find refuge from the current in back eddies and soft seams. Try nymphing these areas with a dry line and indicator. As usual, a stonefly pattern is a safe bet to lure the wild BC trout in. Just be careful out there! The water levels are still high and the river contains lots of log jams. Birkenhead River is starting to come down daily but it will still take a few weeks for the river settle into its low summer level.
Right now the Rainbows and Bull Trout are starting to show up throughout the river due to the presents of the Chinook Salmon. These are big fish and a sight to see. Remember that they are off limits to fishing once you’re above the bridge on Portage Road. Yes, this means egg patterns will be a go to in the next few weeks.

Loggers Lake Fishing
Here is a locals secret hot spot. Loggers lake is just off the beaten path with great bellyboat fishing to be had. With your bellyboat over one shoulder and a fly rod in the other hand, climb the short 350 meter path and get yourself into this lake for some exciting fishing. It is a small lake so now would be the time to fish it before the water gets to warm and the fishing slows down. Right now fishing with a full sinking line and a dark Woolly Bugger like Friday Night Flies “Mowson Pond Woolly Bugger” is the ticket. The Rainbows are on the smaller side ranging from 8-14 inches but are full of attitude and love preforming back flips.
Echo Lake Fishing
Now this one is a little further out there but if you have a truck or suv its a great day of fishing. You will need a boat to fish this lake with success because the shore line is not very accessible. Echo Lake holds Wild Rainbows which can reach up to 18 inches. You can easily find them cruising around the shoals looking for Dragonfly Nymphs and Damselfly Nymphs. Try imitations of these patterns with a slow retrieve and remember to hold on tight. The rainbow trout here can hit hard and put up a good fight. This lake also has some great dry fly fishing in the evenings with midge hatches throughout the summer. The small Rainbow Trout really seem to love them and will take any imitations you through out there. Pound for pound these little guys will give you a run for your money and when the hatch is on the fish just keep on hitting.
Green River Fishing
Like the Birkenhead River, the Green is still high. But that doesn’t mean that you cant find fish in it. If your up for doing some bush waking, you can find fish holding in the pools. There has been some nice Rainbows caught by Czech Nymphing small black or brown flies. Most of the fish are lying just under the current at the head of the pools. If you see the Fish Finder Truck there, keep on driving 😉
