Fishing Nita Lake in Whistler British Columbia. Although your not likely to break any Rainbow Trout size records, this lake will keep you very busy. Nita lake is one of the smaller lakes in Whistler, BC. Do not let it’s size fool you when it comes to fishing. The lakes entire eastern shoreline is easily accessed via the valley trail. While fishing from shore is very productive, the use of a pontoon boat, canoe or float tube is still recommended. If you are going to fish from shore, the creek that feeds the lake at the North end is a sure win. The creek that feeds the lake is small in size. Bring shoes or footwear that can get wet because you will need to walk into the water to get past the shallow shoreline. There is a very well defined drop off at the creek mouth. Position yourself just back from the drop off so that you do not spook the fish or cast shadows into the lake. While fishing Nita Lake use small spinners and spoons. Tipping these spoons and spinners with bait will increase your odds. I have also had great success using a spinner that trails a fly. Fly fishing Nita Lake is very rewarding. Nita Lake is one of those lakes that you get your buddies hooked on fly fishing. The reason for this is simple, Nita lake is stocked annually with catchable sized Trout. The use of these flies for fly fishing Nita lake will yield Trout.
Wet Flies to use – Green or black doc spratley, prince nymphs, hare’s ear nymph, dragonfly nymphs and Damselfly nymphs.
Dry Flies to use – Tom thumb, Elk Caddis, Parachute Adams, Royal Wulff, Ant and CDC Midge Adult (black)
All of these flies and spinning gear listed above are available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd. located at 1380 Birch street in Downtown Pemberton, BC. Pemberton is a very scenic 25 minute drive North of Whistler on highway 99.
There are a few parking options for Nita Lake and all of them are pretty good. The dead end of Drew Drive has a room to park just steps from the lake. This is the best place if you have a canoe, pontoon boat or belly boat to drop in the lake. There is the main above ground and underground parking area in Creekside near the base of Whistler that is convenient and free to use and just a short, 5 minute walk to the lake. Keep in mind that some sections have a two hour time limit on parking. You can also park at the beautiful Nita Lake Lodge parking lot, however you should be staying or eating at the hotel to do that, which of course is a great idea. Just a 5 minute walk from the Nita Lake Lodge is Alpha Lake, where you will find lots of room for parking and Nita Lake Park is just a 10 minute stroll along the beautiful Valley Trail.
