To say the least I was a bit star struck upon picking up my Clients from the Helicopter pad yesterday. I’ve always been a huge hockey fan and from a young age most Canadian Boys are born with a pair of hockey skates on their feet. I was no different and upon discussion with Hendrik I made him well aware that if we were playing hockey he better keep his head up while crossing my blue line. Needless to say, he though I was pretty funny.

It didn’t take long for me to settle in, get these boys dialed in and find my grove. The hum of fly reels screaming at points was almost overwhelming. I’m glad I brought an extra fly fishing guide with me this day. Lets just say his net saw lots of Salmon. As the day progressed I noticed the boys were struggling to keep there rod tips up and my voice rang out “keep your tips up boys, don’t get soft on me now!”. I felt as if I were the coach of the Detroit Red Wings for a day and they were not going to forget this practice ever.

Both Henrik Zetterberg and Jonathan Ericsson were very fast learners and within minutes of our professional fly fishing instruction, they were on Salmon all day long. The Detroit Red Wings captain brought along some muscle in the form of Equipment managers Brady Munger and John Remejes. I could tell these boys were just as excited as I was to be here. It felt good to be part of some old school hockey banter. This was one of those days these boys will never forget. I have a feeling they may have skipped hockey practice the next day due to soar arms from reeling on Salmon.

I was born and raised in Pemberton, British Columbia. As a young boy, the small town of Pemberton didn't offer the youth many things other than great fishing. So every waking moment I would be seen fishing the local rivers and lakes on a daily basis. In 1976 My Father "Ivan Knowles" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, "The Family Business", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
