Fishing Pemberton BC at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park
Some of the best fishing in BC Canada
Fishing Pemberton BC at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park. Yes, the gate is officially open to Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park. The fishing has been very good for large Bull Trout. On average so far this season The Bull Trout have been between 20″ – 26″ and weighing 3 LBS – 6 LBS. We have been hooking a fair amount of Bull Trout over 26″ with our largest being 31″ this year. The Rainbow Trout fishing has been relatively slow, due to spawning season. Rainbow Trout will make there way back in and out of the lake over the next month. Most of the Rainbow Trout in Birkenhead Lake spawn in either Taillerfer Creek or Phelix Creek. Water Temperature is hovering around 42.6°f and the water clarity is 10 feet. In all of the years fishing Birkenhead lake in Pemberton, BC I have never seen zero snow and green grass growing in April. Typically the gate does not open till the first week in May due to snow pack.

When Fly fishing Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park use large minnow patterns. Minnow patterns should represent a landlocked Salmon called Kokanee. Kokanee are the food staple in this lake. I have also had good success using Stonefly Patterns and Case caddis. There tends to be a decent hatch in the evenings on Birkenhead Lake. Dry flies to try include; Adult May Fly, Tom Thumb and one of my favorites is the Black ant or carpenter Ant.
While Trolling or Spin fishing use large plugs, Apex, Rapala and my favorite the Fraser River Rainbow. You will attract a larger audience with a faster troll or retrieve. A faster troll or retrieve will not give the fish time to think about striking, it becomes more instinctive!
