Fly Fishing Report for the Birkenhead River in Pemberton BC.
The Birkenhead River has some of the Best Fly fishing in British Columbia, Canada for Trout. The Pemberton Fish Finder is super excited to announce that the Birkenhead River is officially open to fly fishing once again. This year with the drought conditions the provincial fisheries team decided that a blanket closer for region 2 was a good Idea to protect fish stocks. Lets just say that it worked! I have yet to see better Trout fishing myself on the Birkenhead River. The Birkenhead River is absolutely full of spawning Chinook Salmon. Please note that there is no fishing for Salmon in the Birkenhead River and try your best to avoid walking through their spawning beds. We recommend the use of light leaders in case you accidentally snag a salmon. Typically you will not need a tippet strength greater than 6 LBS for Trout fishing in the Birkenhead River. Occasionally we see Trout over 6 LBS and there are lots of Trout between 12″ – 18″.

Both Sockeye Salmon and Chinook Salmon overlay spawning in the Birkenhead River. The Chinook Salmon are just finishing up and the Sockeye Salmon are just starting to spawn. You will observe plenty of dead Chinook Salmon that have washed up on the shorelines of the Birkenhead River. This is a natural thing, once a salmon has finished Spawning they protect there eggs until they expire. The reason they protect there eggs is because Trout have an acquired taste for their spawn. Trout harass the Spawning Salmon to eat there eggs. Once Trout are eating salmon eggs they can be fooled easily with an egg pattern and a good presentation. The Pemberton Fish Finder can help you with your Presentation, pattern selection and take you into some top secret fishing locations along the Birkenhead River. We put our clients on thousands of fish annually by providing a Safe, fun and rewarding fishing experience while mastering the art of Fly Fishing.
