Fishing Charters Oahu Hawaii.  Every year the second week of November the Pemberton Fish Finder shuts down operations here back in British Columbia, Canada in search of warmer weather prior to the Ice fishing season.  This year I took my family along, packed our bags and headed for Oahu Hawaii.  As I am sure you already know, Hawaii is a tropical destination that has tons of things for young families to do.  Although walking through parks filled with tropical flowers is not high on my lists of things to do, a good father excepts his role and puts on a good show for his kids and Wife.  I am sure by now you are aware of the term “happy wife = Happy Life”.  I had my own secret agenda that included a very important Bucket List Fish for me, The Blue Marlin!  After visiting Hawaii on numerous occasions and not landing a Marlin I had my sights dialed on the prize.  In the past I had fished 2 separate Hawaiian Islands with 4 different Charters with success, but zero Marlin.  This trip around I started off with a charter company that I’m not going to name from the west side of Oahu.  Finally we hooked up on a Marlin and after a short 20 minute fight the Marlin had other plans than getting his picture taken with me.  I hung my head in disbelief, yep that just happened.  Later that day we landed a fair sized Barracuda.

Later that evening, I joined some friends from Hawaii for Thanksgiving Dinner and of course fishing was the topic of the evening.  Most of my friends fish and if they don’t I would probably never see them being that I put in roughly 300 rod days a year myself.  So, at the table my friend suggest I call Shannon from Live Bait Sportfishing.  They are also located on the West side of Oahu Hawaii, which was convenient being that my accommodation was located on the west shore.  Getting a vote of confidence from a local friend means a lot when picking a Charter/Captain.  It did not take long for me to get in touch with Live Bait Sportfishing Charters.

Upon arriving at the dock His boat stood out from the others, Lets say it is well equipped.  Once in Shannon’s boat the chatter began.   Both Shannon and his deckhand spewed confidence and they made me feel right at home.  Shannon has a habit of letting the other boats leave the harbor prior to him so that the other Captains would not know where he was going “sneaky”.   I liked his style because at home we do similar things with our charter trucks that are decaled.  It defers the traffic to an area that we are not fishing *thumbs up*.   Once everyone left the harbor we snuck out to fetch fresh live bait.  It didn’t take long to fill the live well, we then turned for a secret location. It didn’t take long and BOOM! Marlin on, it took everything I had to keep the tip up while the huge reel peeled line out.  The Marlin’s initial run was 800 yards strong, “was I ready for this” I thought to myself.  Showing itself the entire time, I found that to be very distracting to the task at hand.  The battle lasted nearly an hour.  Finally I can check Blue Marlin off of the Bucket list!

Needless to say my arms were done and I had a blister on my reeling hand from this amazing battle.  Then, the Captain turns to me and says “now you’re working for me!” mixed with emotions from the fresh battle in my head I say “yes” not knowing what I had just signed up for.  The boat turns and we head straight out to open waters, roughly 20 miles off shore to a secret Tuna location.  Within minutes Shannon had me battling a massive 110 Lbs Yellow fin Tuna.  Check that one off the old Bucket list while we are at it! Within 4 hours of Tuna fishing we hooked 4 Yellow Fin Tuna and landed 3.  The Biggest Yellow Fin Tuna tipped the scale at a staggering 190 Lbs.  What a Day! Thank you Shannon and Deck hand Steve of Live Bait Sportfishing.  This is a fishing trip I will never forget.

I had no Idea that the fishing in Hawaii was this good.  If you are thinking of dodging the cold Canadian Winter this year and love fishing, I highly recommend these guys.  Coming from one Captain to another you can be assured that you are in the best of hands fishing with Live Bait Sportfishing.  I am already planning my next visit to Hawaii “fishing trip”.  Below are a few pictures from my memorable fishing charter in Hawaii along with Shannon’s contact details and Website.  If Marlin or Tuna are on your bucket list, go check them off!  What are you waiting for?  Tell them the Pemberton Fish Finder sent ya 😉  This is by far the best fishing charter in Oahu Hawaii for Marlin and Yellow Fin Tuna.
