The Salmon are here and the fly fishing is great in British Columbia<\/h2>\n

As the days get shorter there is a buzz in the Air, the Salmon are here!\u00a0 Chinook Salmon are starting to litter the Banks as they begin to expire.\u00a0 While the Chinook Salmon are expiring the Sockeye Salmon are starting to enter the Rivers surrounding Pemberton, BC.\u00a0 You might ask why we are excited about this and the answer is simple.\u00a0 These massive Salmon leave behind plenty of tasty treats in the form of Salmon Eggs, also known as spawn.\u00a0 Trout have become very accustomed to foraging on Salmon eggs and will travel great distances in search of them.\u00a0 As the Salmon make there way through the Fraser River, Harrison Lake, Harrison River, Lower Lillooet River, Lillooet Lake\u00a0and Finally Pemberton they have attracted\u00a0 thousands of Trout in their journey.<\/p>\n

Once the Sockeye Salmon make it to there staging areas, Trout will not leave the Salmon alone.\u00a0 Trout will continually smack into the side of the Sockeye Salmon in hopes that they will drop some eggs and if they do, there is a feeding frenzy. For this reason the use of a Salmon egg pattern while fly fishing will be very effective this time of year.\u00a0 You will want to position yourself just below the spawning Salmon and roll your egg pattern through the area that they are spawning.\u00a0 Be careful not to walk in the spawning areas and give the Salmon plenty of room, not to disrupt their spawning.<\/p>\n

Dry Flies work well While the Salmon are in the Rivers<\/h2>\n

While Salmon are in the Rivers, don’t forget about throwing dry flies.\u00a0 Just because the Rivers are littered with Salmon, Trout still feed on aquatic insects.\u00a0 There are still some prolific hatches through the months of September and October.\u00a0 These hatches include; Salmon fly, Stoneflies ,\u00a0Blue-Winged Olive which is a small mayfly that hatches in the fall and of course one of my favorite\u00a0terrestrial the Grasshopper.\u00a0 While everyone is chucking egg patterns a well presented dry fly can catch as many Trout in a day.<\/p>\n
