The month of May is when the Big boys come out to Play.\u00a0 This is true when you are talking about stillwater fly fishing in British Columbia, Canada.\u00a0 The lakes have all turned and sit in that fishy temperature between 50\u00b0f – 60\u00b0f.\u00a0 As the days grow in length the lakes receive more surface activity in the way of hatches. Mayfly, Damsel fly and Black Gnat hatches drift across the local lakes like gun smoke.<\/p>\n

It is best to divide the month into three distinct portions: the first is in early May when there will be the Hawthorn hatch. The Second, somewhere in the middle of the month after you have received 4\u00a0consecutive days of 20\u00b0c+ brings on the Flying Black Ants.\u00a0 \u00a0The third is later in the month when the Mayfly is on.\u00a0 Throughout the rest of the month of May I have made a list of\u00a0prolific hatches in British Columbia.<\/p>\n
