There are not many Rivers in the World that offer what the Birkenhead River can when it comes to fly fishing. \u00a0The Birkenhead River offers year round fishing opportunities for Salmon and Trout. \u00a0Trout in this river can grow in excess of 6 LBS and Salmon can topple the scale at 50 LBS. \u00a0During the months of August and September, the Birkenhead River offers some of the Worlds best dry fly action. \u00a0Towards the end of September we switch up and high stick egg patterns as the Sockeye begin their spawn. \u00a0The Sockeye Salmon run is a sight to be seen, they come in by the thousands. \u00a0While the Sockeye run is happening we regularly see Bald Eagles and Black Bears. \u00a0Enjoy some of the best fly fishing in the World.<\/p>\n

Getting to know the Birkenhead River<\/h2>\n

The Birkenhead River is located 10 minutes North of Pemberton on Portage road. \u00a0Portage road offers great access to the river and there are numerous parking spots and a great network of trails. \u00a0Typically, wherever there is a pull out there is a trail that will lead you into a great fly fishing spot. \u00a0I always tell people, the further you get away from the highway the better the fishing will be. \u00a0This being said, park your vehicle and do some walking. \u00a0The river bed is mainly constructed of gravel, so the Birkenhead River is always changing and this keeps it interesting. \u00a0Fly fishing spots that you have fished in the past may not be there in a matter of a week, so you will have to do a bit of exploring. You will typically see multiple fish in each and every fishing hole.<\/p>\n

Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
