Fly Fishing with Streamers in Whistler BC. \u00a0While the water is rising in Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish we welcome the abundant presence of Salmon fry. \u00a0This makes for some very fun fly fishing with the use of Streamer fly patterns. \u00a0Streamers are a great pattern to learn how to fly fish with because the strikes are explosive! \u00a0Meaning, fish can practically pull a fly rod out of your hands if you are not ready for the strike. \u00a0Streamers are easily fly fished with a swing and stripping retrieval. \u00a0Break up the retrieve with different length strips and speed bursts, remember you want your minnow pattern to look crippled. \u00a0Crippled being an easy target and meal, which predatory fish key in on such as Bull Trout.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the picture above, Bull Trout have acquired a taste for other fish. \u00a0There is an age old saying “match the hatch” in this case match the fry. \u00a0A couple fry patterns that we have been having great success with are the Moto Minnow<\/a>, minute minnow<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0George\u2019s Kraft and Krystal Minnow<\/a>. \u00a0All of these minnow patterns listed are very effective in catching predatory fish such as Bull Trout, Rainbow Trout and Coastal Cutthroat Trout this time of year. \u00a0If any of the Rivers you fly fish receive a Salmon run in the fall, you better believe that there are Salmon fry there in the spring. \u00a0While fly fishing streamer and minnow patterns you will want to be fishing the bottom 3rd of the water column. \u00a0Add weight to your fly or leader until you have reached the preferred depth. \u00a0Salmon fry will take refuge near structure, so look for log jams, underwater logs\/trees and or deep water that piles into large rock. \u00a0Your best option would be to spend a day out with one of our professional fly fishing guides<\/a> and let us get you on the fast track to success.<\/p>\n

In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
