Coho Salmon fishing near Whistler BC Canada. \u00a0It’s that time of year that both Northern Coho Salmon and your typical Coho Salmon start flooding the Streams and Rivers surrounding Whistler, BC. \u00a0You might ask what the difference between Coho’s are and the Answer is simple. \u00a0Northern Coho Salmon can reach a staggering 25 LBS, while regular Coho hover between 6 LBS – 10 Lbs. \u00a0These Coho also have a very distinctive jaw curl, as shown in the picture above. \u00a0You don’t want to get you fingers in his mouth! \u00a0 Both Strains of Coho Salmon visit the Rivers in Squamish, BC and Pemberton, BC. \u00a0The two towns listed are approximately a half hour drive either South “Squamish” or North “Pemberton” of Whistler on highway 99.<\/p>\n

How to Catch Coho Salmon while Fishing<\/h2>\n

With the recent arrival of Coho Salmon the guides from the Pemberton Fish Finder have been running around doing their homework. \u00a0Finding out what works best prior to clients going on a successful fishing adventure is important. \u00a0Locating holes, colors, patterns and picking up garbage as we go. \u00a0What we have found to be working best right now has been spoons and spinners while spin fishing. \u00a0You can’t go wrong with spoons and spinners sporting the colors green or blue. \u00a0We have found that a slow retrieval speed has been working best, you just want your spoon wobbling and your spinners just spinning. \u00a0Keep your gear near the bottom for best results. \u00a0While the Coho Salmon numbers increase in the rivers, we will definitely be putting more time in fly fishing. \u00a0Remember this is just the start of the Coho Salmon season and there is nothing better than reeling in one of these power horses on a fly rod. \u00a0Coho are known to put on crazy aerial displays and it’s tough to keep them on a barbless hook , trust me. \u00a0Below I have included a picture of the spoons and spinners we have been having most success with. \u00a0All of these lures are available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd in Pemberton, BC at 1380 Birch street. \u00a0Our in-house brand cost\u00a0a fraction of comparable lures. \u00a0Come check them out.<\/p>\n

In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
