Showh Lakes in Whistler a hidden fly fishing gem. \u00a0Showh lakes is accessed via\u00a016 mile creek forest service road. \u00a0The road itself is rough and the use of a 4 x 4 is recommended. \u00a0Although in the video and pictures that we took in the short period that we visited Showh lakes does not represent the lake well. \u00a0There are Cutthroat Trout that reach 20″s in length and we saw numerous Trout between 14″ – 16″. \u00a0While visiting Showh lakes my cell phone was going in and out of service, which is hard on batteries. \u00a0Once We hooked a larger Cutthroat, I planned on taking a picture only to find out that my battery was dead. \u00a0Needless to say, Showh Lakes is loaded with fish and a must visit if you like dry fly fishing in Whistler, BC.<\/p>\n

Showh Lakes in Whistler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We only fly fished the first of the two Showh lakes. \u00a0Supposedly the second lake has much larger fish, but I have yet to fish it. \u00a0After the first Showh Lake the forest service road deteriorates rapidly. \u00a0Watch out for ATV riders on the forest service road because one of the Whistler activity companies takes there ATV tours up there.<\/p>\n

Fly fishing Showh Lakes<\/h2>\n

Showh lakes is a hidden Dry Fly fishing Gem. \u00a0It has some of the best dry fly fishing in the World. \u00a0It had been nearly 20 years since I last fly fished Showh lakes, so I did a slow lap of the lake to get\u00a0orientated with the lake. \u00a0Marking structure and always looking for anything that the Trout were feeding on. \u00a0On my tour of the lake I noticed that the Cutthroat Trout were feeding on very small midge and small caddis. \u00a0Bingo! \u00a0There is one fly that imitates these flies to a tee, the Adams. \u00a0The Adams fly is a traditional dry fly primarily used for trout. It is considered a general imitation of an adult mayfly, flying caddis or midge. \u00a0We were running Adams on a size 14 and 16 hook. \u00a0Be prepared to catch lots of fish and have the sweet smell of success on your hands.<\/p>\n

As a young boy, the small town of Pemberton didn't offer the youth many things other than great fishing. So every waking moment I would be seen fishing the local rivers and lakes on a daily basis. In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
