Fly Fishing Pemberton BC Canada Upper Lillooet River. \u00a0The Upper Lillooet river is only fishable through the Winter month to early\u00a0Spring and then again in late fall. \u00a0Once spring run off starts the Lillooet River becomes very silty with zero visibility. \u00a0The Lillooet River receives one of the largest runs of Northern Coho in British Columbia during October and taps out by mid January. \u00a0The Coho Salmon bring along a ton of Trout in search of Spawn. \u00a0Once the Coho Salmon start to die off in January the Trout turn onto flesh Patterns. \u00a0Flesh patterns work great throughout February. \u00a0In March the Salmon fry start to emerge from the spawning beds. \u00a0The fry quickly take cover in structure along the river banks or become victim to hungry predator Trout. \u00a0By late March an incredible run of Coastal Cutthroat Trout visit the Lower sections of the Upper Lillooet River. \u00a0Cutthroat quickly spread throughout the Lillooet River and Tributaries.<\/p>\n

When Fly fishing the Upper Lillooet River Make sure you bring along a sink tip Fly Line with either a type 3 or 4 sink rate. \u00a0The river is well suited for single hand fly rods and switch fly rods will allow you to work more water efficiently. \u00a0Personally I like to use either a 5wt or 6wt fly rod while fishing the Upper Lillooet River in Pemberton, BC. \u00a0There are large fish in this system, with my largest being roughly 8.5 Lbs. \u00a0Once the Coastal Cutthroat Trout move in they can reach a staggering 6.5 Lbs. \u00a0Patterns I would be focusing on for this time of year would be the Lillooet Killer<\/a>, Pink Belly<\/a> and the Motto Minnow. \u00a0All of these patterns and more are available at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd<\/a>. 1380 Birch street in downtown Pemberton, BC. \u00a0This is Whistler’s and Pemberton’s Fly Shop<\/a>. \u00a0They have a huge map on the counter that highlights some of the key fishing spots on the River and the boys don’t mind sharing some local secrets.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0some\u00a0places this may be true!<\/p>\n

Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
