Fishing Birkenhead Lake BC Provincial Park<\/h2>\n

Fishing Birkenhead Lake BC Provincial Park. \u00a0Birkenhead lake is located 45 minutes North of Pemberton, BC. \u00a0The lake holds some of the best fishing in British Columbia<\/a> for large Rainbow Trout and Bull Trout. \u00a0Bull Trout in this lake are protected by means of catch and release. \u00a0Bull Trout in Birkenhead lake can reach 15 Lbs and are regularly caught in and around 10 Lbs. \u00a0The lake has a healthy population of small Kokanee. \u00a0Kokanee are a land locked Salmon and are a staple food source for the larger\u00a0predatory Trout. \u00a0When fishing Birkenhead Lake stay out from the shoreline. \u00a0There is a ton of snags and structure near the shoreline. \u00a0If you are using a downrigger, pay attention to your fish finder. \u00a0I have found that fishing near the middle of the lake can be best in the mornings and evenings. \u00a0If you find a school of Kokanee on the surface stay near them and try your best to imitate a wounded bait fish with your gear. \u00a0The use of Gang Trolls and or Ford Fenders can imitate a school of minnows and put a small plug, spoon or shad roughly 4′ – 6′ behind. \u00a0This trailing lure will represent a struggling fish and will surely fall victim to an attack from a predatory Trout.<\/p>\n

Prior to Ice covering Birkenhead lake the fishing is exceptional. \u00a0The gate usually stays open until the first snowfall. \u00a0At this point the gate is closed and access is limited to foot traffic only. \u00a0You can count on the gate being closed by December 1st. \u00a0For more information about Birkenhead lake visit BC parks<\/a> website. \u00a0The gate is located 2 km from the lake.<\/p>\n

The following pictures were taken during\u00a0our last visit to\u00a0Birkenhead Lake this year on November 16th, 2014. \u00a0The fishing was exceptional and so was the scenery. \u00a0The morning was cold “-9\u00b0c” and there was zero wind. \u00a0Once the sun poked out over the mountains it warmed to -4\u00b0c. \u00a0 We brought along a small heater to take the chill out of the air and to dry our hands after handling fish. \u00a0If you would like to hire a fishing guide on Birkenhead Lake visit the Pemberton Fish Finder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a young boy, the small town of Pemberton didn't offer the youth many things other than great fishing. So every waking moment I would be seen fishing the local rivers and lakes on a daily basis. In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
