River Fishing in Whistler British Columbia Canada. \u00a0Whistler is located in the beautiful coastal mountains of British Columbia, Canada. \u00a0The Rivers and Streams are all glacial fed. \u00a0This keeps the waters cold and well oxygenated throughout the year. \u00a0Cold water is a\u00a0key piece for the survival of \u00a0Salmon and Trout alike. \u00a0First thing you will notice is the hazy blue color of the water, this is caused from glacial till. \u00a0There is plenty of aquatic and terrestrial<\/span>\u00a0life in and along our Streams and Rivers. \u00a0Some of these include Grasshoppers, Stoneflies (Plecoptera),\u00a0Caddis Flies (Trichoptera), Minnows and in the Fall a healthy helping of Salmon spawn. \u00a0Some of the more notable Streams in the Whistler area are the Birkenhead River, River of Golden Dreams, Fitzsimmon’s and Green River. \u00a0All of these rivers mentioned have a healthy population of Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout and Dolly Varden. \u00a0The Birkenhead River also receives Salmon throughout the Summer and Fall months. \u00a0Fly fishing<\/a> and Spin Fishing are popular methods of fishing in the Whistler Rivers. \u00a0While Fly fishing try using Caddis Flies and Sedges on floating lines. \u00a0On Sinking lines use Stonefly Nymphs, Streamers and Egg patterns. \u00a0For a great selection of Fly fishing supplies stop in the local fly shop Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd<\/a>. \u00a0At 1380 Birch Street in downtown Pemberton, BC. \u00a0The Sports shop is well equipped with both Spin fishing and Fly fishing gear. \u00a0They have a great map on the counter that shows the local hot spots for fishing. \u00a0You can also buy maps which the staff will gladly circle a few great fishing locations. \u00a0While Spin fishing try using small spinners and small spoons. \u00a0Try mixing up your retrieval speeds, some days the fish like a slow or fast retrieve.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a young boy, the small town of Pemberton didn't offer the youth many things other than great fishing. So every waking moment I would be seen fishing the local rivers and lakes on a daily basis. In 1976 My Father \"Ivan Knowles\" opened Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, and how fitting he had his two boys running the shop who were both very avid in hunting, camping and most of all ... fishing. Everyday people from all over the World would come in and get the local scoop, buy their gear and be off to catch fish. Later on My local knowledge and ability to help people catch fish would come in handy. Soon I ventured away from the family business to work as a angling guide for 5 years. In those 5 years I stared in my own fishing show called ELITE FISHING which was seen by 100,000 people a week on Whistler Cable. I have made a name for myself as the man to see if you want to catch fish. Now back working at Spud Valley Sporting Goods Ltd, \"The Family Business\", I love working with my brother Sheridan and father Ivan. Also a proud member of the fisheries committee for Pemberton Wildlife Association - helping make local decisions on local fisheries.
